The U.S. government has officially announced a new round of tariffs on wood, furniture, and kitchen cabinet products from China, which will take effect at 12:01 a.m. EDT on October 14, 2025.

As a freight forwarder working closely with U.S. importers, Zcyt Logistics would like to help our partners understand what these changes mean — and how to prepare for them.

Key Tariff Adjustments

1️⃣ Softwood Logs and Lumber

  • HS Chapter: 44
  • Tariff increase: +10%
  • Applies to softwood raw materials and sawn timber commonly used in construction and furniture manufacturing.

2️⃣ Wood Upholstered Furniture

  • HS Codes: 9401.61.4011 / 9401.61.4031 / 9401.61.6011 / 9401.61.6031
  • Tariff increase: +25%
  • Includes upholstered sofas, chairs, and similar seating furniture with wooden frames.

3️⃣ Kitchen Cabinets & Vanities (and Parts)

  • Tariff increase: +25%
  • Covers both finished products and component parts.

 Important Notes for Importers

  • If the same item also falls under automotive parts (Section 232), the automotive classification applies.
  • Anti-dumping and countervailing duties remain in effect and will be added on top of these tariffs.
  • Exemptions under Annex II are now invalid, meaning all applicable items will face the new duties.

For U.S. importers working with Chinese suppliers of wood, furniture, or kitchen cabinetry, this change will impact total landed costs starting in mid-October.
We recommend:

  • Confirming HS codes with your suppliers and customs brokers.
  • Shipping before October 14 to clear customs under the current duty rate.
  • Reviewing supply chain alternatives, such as reclassifying components or adjusting sourcing schedules.
